THREE SECRET INGREDIENTS.
AND ONE HOUR to create dishes to be put before a panel of judges.
It’s a series of events that will happen monthly at Neon Pigeon , a funky Asian inspired restaurant on Keong Saik Road where chefs around Singapore battle it out in the kitchen for an hour to produce as many dishes they can with 3 secret ingredients.
The bad boy Bjorn Shen battled it out against Dan Segall in the first round of these competitions and this time it was our very own chef Jennifer Lee who was in the kitchen with Vivian Pei.
The event started a little later than expected with interviews and industry schmoozing running over time.. and then it was on. The three secret ingredients were revealed – shishito peppers, amazing prime rib and glorious glistening honeycomb. The chefs took to pen and paper to write a list for the ingredients needed to accentuate these main ingredients, after 15 minutes or so, the clock started ticking.
Vivian pumped out a good 4 dishes and presented it to the judges – the first one at the 20 minute mark, however Jennifer presented only 2 after 30 minutes had passed. The audience was a little tense, despite alcohol flowing and the music pumping.. 4 dishes against 2? And to top it off Jennifer presented her dessert first?
Our chef, Jennifer, took home the winners cleaver after presenting a simple charcoal grilled prime rib with a mole inspired sauce, flash fried shishito peppers and a chocolate avocado mousse scattered with raspberries, honeycomb and zeppole.
It was a fun night had by all and we would like to thank everyone for coming down to support us…. we can’t wait for the next one!!
